Brathwaite, Goodman star as Gladiola grab their first BCA Elite/Division 1 T20 Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados, November 14 - ( - Renaldo Brathwaite hit a fine half-century and left-arm spinner Damario Goodman grabbed three key wickets as BWU Gladiola captured the BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup for the first time with a 36-run win against Wanderers in the Final at Kensington Oval today.

After they were sent in, attacking batting propelled Gladiola, under the captaincy of Javon Searles, to 172 for five off 20 overs.

Player-of-the-Match Brathwaite made 51 off 40 balls with two fours and three sixes at No. 4. It was his third half-century in five matches this season.

Operating from the Joel Garner end, Goodman then snatched three of the first four wickets in the space of eight balls to put Wanderers under pressure on 44 for four by the ninth over before they were restricted to 136 for seven.

Goodman ended with three for 19 off four overs - his best figures for the season - and was also the top wicket-taker in the Tournament with 17 scalps at an average of 9.29. His economy rate was 4.78.

Gladiola started briskly and were 83 for three after the halfway stage, having reached 57 for two in the Powerplay of six overs.

Kadeem Alleyne was first dismissed, run out for 16 off the last ball of the second over of the match. His opening partner Kodi Phillips fell to fast bowler Jourdan Niles for two in the next over.

Veteran Martin Nurse and Brathwaite then played some exciting strokes in adding 52 off six overs for the third wicket before left-hander Nurse, a former Barbados player, was dismissed by slow medium Kirk Edwards for 33 off 27 balls including two fours and three sixes.

Devon Phillips contributed 10 before falling to left-arm spinner Ryshon Williams in the 14th over with the score 101.

It let in all-rounder Ashley Nurse, a Barbados Pride player with international T20 experience. And he featured in a brisk stand of 55 off only 4.2 overs with Brathwaite.

Brathwaite was eventually caught at the wicket by Sylvester Moore off leg-spinner Nikolai Charles.

Ashley Nurse slammed 38 not out off 22 balls with three fours and three sixes.

Wanderers first lost Jason Greene, leg before wicket by medium-pacer Alleyne for three as he played across with the score 33 in the sixth over.

Then the admirable Goodman took centre stage from the next over - his first, in which he picked up two wickets. Spectacularly, all three of his victims were bowled as they defended.

Williams fell for 23 off 20 balls off the fourth delivery, followed two balls later by Jonathan Drakes (three).

Edwards (one), a former Barbados captain and West Indies batsman, was the other scalp.

All-rounder Roshon Primus and captain Diego Stuart then added 50 off 6.1 overs for the fifth wicket as Primus dominated with some attacking strokes.

Medium-pacer Korie Miller broke the partnership in his first over, inducing Primus, who made 39 off 31 balls with three sixes and one four, to miscue a pull towards short mid-off for the bowler to take comfortably.

Miller also accounted for Ian Boyce (two), caught at long-off by Ashley Nurse and Alleyne bowled Charles for 14.

Stuart was unbeaten on 37 off 27 balls including three fours and one six.

Alleyne took two for 25 off four overs and Miller, two for 28 off three overs.
